Image selection bug

Hi,

I am using Irfanview 4.00 in Vista Ultimate. This was not present in 3.99

In the process of selecting a portion of an image to perform a Crop, the selected portion does not stay selected.

This only happen on an image that is larger than the screen and vertical scroll bar is present.

I start by selecting the top left of an image, then drag the selection down to near the bottom of image. The image has to scroll to reach the bottom. In some cases after reaching the bottom of image then using the scroll bar to look at the top of the image the portion of the image at the top equal to the distance scrolled is not selected anymore. I then have to drag the selected part of the image back to the top.

If this is hard to understand, I can provide screen shots.

yes, i can reproduce that (it´s a bit hard to explain).

The only way to prevent that is to disable "center image in windows" (View-> Display Options) ...

PS: @bert: i know, that is no ms support forum, but can you image why i often got a bluescreen under vista called: "Ircq Not Less or equal". I am only using a dell printer and a linksys wlan card (installed drivers) (and the error definitly occured after i installed the dell printer. what can i do ?

This is a driver error, one or more are either corrupt, incompatible with each
other, or incompatible with Vista. Check for updated drivers for your
components from the manufacturer (not Windows Update). If a module is
mentioned, this may provide a clue as to what driver is the problem.

You will want to check for a Vista driver for the Dell printer.

Was the system in question upgraded to Vista, of did it ship with Vista installed?

I still have a problem with selected area not staying selected on IrfanView 4.0 on Windows XP, SP 2. I tried disabling the "center image in window" setting like you said, but it didn't help.

It's a little hard to explain, since my scenario isn't quite as simple as described above. When I initially select a section of the picture to crop, everything is fine. It's if I try to move one of the edges, and the picture is taller/wider than the window, then I often have problems. It messes up more often than it works, though sometimes it's fine.

I disabled "center image in windows" and after cropping more images the problem is still there.

To repo, select a portion of the image that's larger than the window and drag it to the bottom while scrolling. Change the width of the selection.

Yes, the image has to be large enough to force the scroll bar on the right to appear.

I have been able to repo this on Vista and XP SP2. Going back to Ver. 3.99 on both OS's, the problem disappears. So this is new to 4.00.

I've got the same problem with cropping.

Sadly because I really love the new "center images" option. Switch to 3.99 and all is fine.

I think I figured out why this happens sometimes, but not every time. It only happens if both the height and the width are larger than the window. So if your selection to be cropped is both wider and taller than the window, causing the scroll bars to appear on the right and the bottom, and then you go to move one of the sides of the crop selection, then the other side that's outside the window will move to the border of the window. I hope that makes sense.

3.99 was fine. I uninstalled it and installed 4.00.

This always happens when I deal with large images now.

Steps:
Create or open an image larger than the window.
Create a selection box.
Scroll in either or both directions until the top and/or left edge of the selection isn't visible.
Drag any edge of the selection.

The moment the mouse button is pressed, it's still okay.
As soon as the dragging begins, both the top and left edges jump to the leftmost/topmost visible edges of the window.


In other words, when either the top or left edge isn't visible, dragging any of the visible edges causes it to jump to the window's border.


Workaround:
Start by adjusting the right/bottom.
Then scroll and keep both the top and left edges visible while adjusting those.

• Disabling "center image in windows" doesn't help for me either.

I have this problem in v4.10 and I don't know if they've fixed it, but it seems like nothing has changed since v4.00. rather i go back to an older version.
