    IrfanView ShellExtension 1.02

    hi!
I hope you guys can help me

    I'm having problems with the
    "IrfanView ShellExtension 1.02" plug-in,,,

    In this menu

when i click any picture type, to convert my pic to it.
instead of doing so, it launches my Internet browser and directly
    goes to BAXBEX home page,,???
    its really really weird!!!

I've tried uninstalling it and reinstall it, but same thing happens...
now i was thinking that maybe i need to remove manually the
    "IrfanView ShellExtension 1.02 registry key
    and after,
    try to install it again...
but i cant find that registry key in "regedit"...
    I'm on win98SE...

any help would be really appreciated!!!

This browser stuff is quite weird indeed. Smells like you have a trojan aboard.
No need to fuzz in the reg I guess.
There must be an 'uninstall.bat' in the Irfan View root dir.

The shell extension has a problem (one might say bug) in some environments when you eliminate some of the extension options. From the looks of your screenshot, you have done that. Restore the defaults and see if it still plays pranks.
      Its: Belongs to "It"
It's: Shortened form of "It is"
      ---------------------
      Lose: Fail to keep
      Loose: Not tight

      ---------------------
      Plurals do not require apostrophes

        ill try that!
but how do i exactly restore the shellextension to default?
cuz if i right-click on a picture and select "options"
it still launches my internet browser...
        any idea?

        -thanx-

I think that the simplest way is to uninstall and then reinstall it. Then, if it works, you just have to put up with the extra extensions that you might never use. They bother me too, especially when I am having a "bad mouse day," but I learned to live with it after messing it up once.

I have XP now, so I can't even have the problem any more! That makes it a little harder to come up with the answer - LOL. I was searching the registry, thinking I might find the right things to edit to change the behavior, but not much luck. But if you search for IVEx.dll and take note of all the related data, you should be able to find all of the relevant keys. Use RegCool or something like that (freeware), better search. I could search in a win98 machine tomorrow (I probably will, just to satisfy myself)

For the record : did you reboot your system between unstalling and installing again ? This sometimes may help.

But I first liked to know : what's this BAXBEX thing ? So I checked, and it's a site with some security tools.
So did you installed any of their products ? This logging-in maybe is connected to some format-association.

I see. So no trojans involved. Probably some auto-update thing.

Sam - What happens is that when you eliminate some of the possible convert-to extensions by unchecking them in "options," the context menu gets mixed up and the links on it don't function as expected. There is a "visit the BaxBex site" option in the unaltered menu, that is what causes the browser poppings up.

It is a bug in the IVEx.dll that provides the context menu. I doubt if it is ever going to get fixed, it's been around for years. The only thing to do is not remove anything but the most unnecessary items, and not take out any file extension options.

eSkRo - I am going to find a fix, hang in there

Thanks, this shows the situation to me.
Where is the setting of these "options" kept ? Registry ?

I think so, but I'm still looking for them (and I haven't been at it yet today). Hoping to come up with some solution. It is really bad when you can't go back, I've never painted myself into a corner that tight with it, thank goodness. I have certainly experienced some odd moments after disabling too many options.
