    JPGQ vs Size

    Hi,

Ive got something strange, Irfanview doesnt seems to react on the jpgq setting, if i set it to 99 or 75 the size still stays the same.

Is there some kind of setting which causes this..

Do you have "Disable color subsampling" checked? That can make a notable difference. Uncheck it and the size goes down. Also, some images that are very complex can be close in size at different rates of compression because the information can't be compressed as much as in a simpler image.

Color subsampling should always be disabled. It's purpose is not to deafeat the quality slider. By using color subsampling you are reducing the resolution of the color channels, drastically lowering the image quality. The effect is most noticable if you have bright red details on your picture. Do not make JPEGs with quality comparable to a videotape in the 21st century.

I was unable to reproduce your problem in v3.98(whatever the subversion was).

Thanks a lot. I never payed attention to this color subsampling, and it appeared to be enabled.
