Extension prt.1? That is really just an extension of .1. The extension is what is after the last period in the entire file name, and .1 is nothing significant.

Perhaps you actually mean .prt. If so, then that could be any of at least 17 formats mentioned on filext.
      I see these possibilities:
PRT Unknown Apple II File (found on Golden Orchard Apple II CD Rom)
      PRT Presentations Template (Corel)
      PRT Unigraphics Part File
      PRT P-CAD Component (Altium Limited)
PRT Personal Paint Portuguese Language User Interface File (Amiga)
      PRT Printer-formatted File
      PRT Pro/ENGINEER Model File (PTC)
      PRT Process Revolution Template File
      PRT Pro/ENGINEER Parts File (PTC)
      PRT SCEdit Part File
      PRT Schedule+ Print File (Microsoft)
PRT IRMA Workstation for Windows Printer Configuration
      PRT InterComm Pin Use Definition
PRT CADKEY Parts File (Kubotek USA Inc.)
      PRT Printer Configuration
      PRT Dr.Halo Printer Driver
      PRT W32/Parrot-A Worm-related

Which do you mean, and besides, you do realize that IrfanView is a graphic viewer, right? I don't see any graphic type listed there.

Perhaps you could simply, and more easily, just use Notepad to open the file. I opened a few .PRT files on my PC and saw simple text in the file, being what appears to be style definitions for printing certain other types of files. Nothing that, I believe, IrfanView should be expected to open, or do anything remarkable with.

      What is this prt.1 file?
I wish to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather.
Not like those passengers, in his car, when he drove over that cliff.

I hate multiple dots in a filename. And indeed, a .1 extension

        What is this prt.1 file?
Part one of some sequence ?
Part one of some split file ?
