    [ImPDF] Experimental version for test

There is a new version of ImPDF available (v0.50) showing a preview of the PDF pages to generate. You can get a zip from the link mentioned in the about tab of ImPDF settings.

This is not an official version because converting from the commandline may be disturbed by this feature.

To achieve the preview the save options are no longer requested from the user together with the file selector. Instead you will be asked for the options after selecting of the destination file.

There is a new version 0.53 on the homepage of ImPDF which allows to use "Save as PDF" with or without preview.

Also a simple help file has been added which should be placed in the same folder as ImPDF.dll.

In the meantime ImPDF reached version 0.57. In the Preview window there are now page and image operations possible (like Info, Clipboard.Cut/Copy/Paste/Delete, File.Load/Save, Order of images Flip, Rotate, D&D). See help file for more details.

ImPDF v0.58 offers more standard layouts (like ARCH x) and supports 128 bit encryption. Together with IV 4.20, the preview mode needs less memory.

            Hi impdf,

Thanks for this new update. I just tried it. Works fine.

I was just disturbed because the ImPDF window I was accustomized to had only two tabs. But another window appears later with the usual tabs. I guess there are reasons for this, nevertheless I would have preferred all tabs in only one window.

About Security, the Random Owner Password box is checked and greyed. Is this the normal behaviour of ImPDF?

As you may know, Irfanview does not provide the plugins the images during the file select for save. So ImPDF is only able to show a dummy image in the preview area to give the user a feedback about what happens by changing the settings.

To allow a real preview the general tab has been added to the settings. There you can decide if you like to use the plugin w/o preview as before or to get the complete settings dialog after selecting the file.

So if you select "I don't need preview" in the general tab, the settiings dialog switches to the 6 pages view and you can change the settings immediately (but you will not get a preview). If you are always doing the same, let's say just create a pdf in the size of the image then switch of the preview feature. It is more usefull if you are working with a multipage image.

This is the normal behavior but not usual. The reason behind this is that if you are using security always two passwords are required. An owner password and an open password. The open password may be empty but still it is needed to calculate the decryption key. Many people do not need the ability to modify the pdf later, so a random password for the owner is fine. This feature allows to use security w/o adding any password manually. We will add a the possibility to add an owner password.

In the moment these people are working on the feature to append an image to an existing pdf. Irfanview needs this in different places like batch or scan to multipage. There scurity will not work in the beginning because you are not able to reenter the random password (because you do not know it ;-)

ImPDF v0.40 saves as PDF 1.3 (both with or without security enabled).

ImPDF v0.58 saves as PDF 1.3 only when not using security (or using low one). It's only when high security is enabled, then it saves as PDF 1.4 (with the "minimum Acrobat version required to open" raised from v3.0 to v5.0).

Mind you, by now the present format is already at "PDF 1.7 Extension Level 3" (which is an upgrade from plain "PDF 1.7").

Please save at the highest PDF version as possible at all times. Saving to a better format is one of the features of each new Acrobat version, after all.

Less important is the "minimum Acrobat version required to open" (an encrypted PDF), but it may be better at 6.0. It probably takes more space to support a lower minimum. Otherwise, I don't see why anyone wouldn't just conform to v0.1.

                      What do you think?

No advantage to do this. Viewers are looking to the version number to check if they are able to interpret the file content. Because a higher number quite often means something in the format has changed. As long as the pdfs generated via ImPDF do not offer a feature which is only available in a newer pdf version, it makes no sense to change the version number of the pdfs.

New in ImPDF v0.66 (since v0.58):
                          - Flicker-free drawing of dialog controls and content of the preview window
                          - New dummy preview image which may make it easier to understand what the settings are doing
                          - Additional tab item just for preview
                          - unit combobox is back (now in general tab)
                          - Improved precision of values in /Mediabox and other tags.
                          - Small other fixes
                          - Multipage PDFs are working in Preview mode with the patched Irfanview version 4.25 (which can be found in the forum)

As usual you can download this version from the link given in the About tab item of the ImPDF dialog.

[ImPDF] v0.67 Experimental version for test

Sorry to provide an update after one day ;-)
But people asked why not to provide the real owner password feature (beside of the random one) finally.
And they are right, so we updated the version on the web.

                            Details:
Instead of the disabled switch "Password required... -> use random owner password"
There is now an enabled switch "Password required... -> to Modify the document"
This switch is on by default. If you switch it off you will get the old behavior and a random owner password will be used.

The help file has been updated to document this change.

[ImPDF] v0.72: Experimental version for test: Slideshow feature

A new tab has been added to the options which allows you to create pdf presentations (slideshows).
Remark: Not all pdf viewers are able to handle pdf presentations.
                              See attachment for options.

As always you can get a zip from the link mentioned in the about tab of ImPDF settings.
