Reported A bug of unicode plugin

If the path contect some Traditional Chinese word, and I use the double-click to open imgs, it will jump to the father level folder when reading next picture, even under a Traditional Chinese windows.

When I unchecked the unicode plugin, or using "file->open" to open,
    all comes normal.

The very confused is "妹" making problem, but "妹妹" ok...
So I cant tell you what words make troubles.

ps. Something mazed is the Japanese Unicode Words are all normal under my Chinese XP.

    Windows XP SP3 Traditional Chinese
    Irfanview 4.2

    very thanks

    Nihoa 9999,
Well it seems like a bug allright. It's a pity I can't confirm your troubles with this "妹". I work on a Dutch system and don't use the unicode plugin at all. But I know some IrfanView users on this forum are about this plugin. Hope you get an answer from them. In the meantime unchecking the plugin solve your problem too as I understood.

Same bug, but maybe not related toAnsi2Unicode.dll

      Confirmed.

      i have the same problem.
when i try to open pics with names containing chinese character
(like "寶-針痘紙-1.jpg") i only get an error message like

      -----------------------
      irfanview
      (path)\?-???-1.jpg:
      can´t read file header!

unknown file format or file not found.
      --------------------------------------

but i think this is _not_ related to Ansi2Unicode.dll.
to be sure, i even renamed that plugin to make it unusable.
but i still cant´open that file.
other image-viewers can open those files, so it´s not system related.

(using Win Vist and IrfanView 4.20)

      regards
      Chris

Your problem may not be related to any bug. The plugin is not enabled by default.

Properties, Misc1, Use Unicode Plugin. Restart IrfanView.

IIRC it can also be caused by very long path names. Try moving the file to another folder.

          oy, thanks! it worked!

          after activating the unicode-plugin,
i can open those files with chinese names. :-)

the only minor problem now is, that the filename
displayed in the window caption does not show
the chinese characters, but question marks.

          thanks for your help!

          regards

Dialogue boxes will use a system font.

The problem is not of the dialog box font, but of IV: it still uses internally ASCII API functions, the Unicode Plugin seems to be just some kind of hack to let it open and save files with unicode characters in their names.

The latest stable IrfanPaint version is the 0.4.13.70.
IrfanPaint is now open-source (released under BSD license).

                question marks in windows caption

                you are both right. :-)

it is a system font and
                it it an IV problem.

i would not have mentioned this thingy if it wouldn´t be IV-related.
Other tools, eg. MS-Paint, do display the correct chinese filename
                in their caption.

So i think the system font used for window captions is capable of
displaying chinese characters. And I agree with MItaly: the Ansi2Unicode
plugin enables handling foreign filenames, but does not transfer that string
                to the window caption.

Not a big problem, of course.
But maybe the next versionn....? :-)

                Bye!

phew... after doing misc 1, setting I can finally open unicode files. however, as someone else pointed out, it shows up as ????.jpg on the top even though it shows up properly in default Windows file viewer.

                    question marks in windows caption

yes... files with chinese names are displayed correctly now. but the filenames are still wrong: only question-marks. i still hope this will be fixed soon.
                    shouldn´t be that difficult.

there are lots of asians out there, who would happily use IrfanView. :-)
