    v4.20 FileRename Window changes its position

    Hi, Thank you _so much_ for your new release,

    My System : OS = Win XP Pro SP3 on Toshiba Tecra A7 2 GB RAM

    Strange issue : In thumbnail view, every time that you invoke file rename (F2), the FileRename window skips upwards by 28 pixels (y coordinate) ! This can be verified afterwards by viewing i_view32.ini file in [Windows] section, entry "FileRename".

    If you invoke <F2> several times, the FileRename window finishes by disappear from your display !! The only way to "recover" the window is to manually edit the y coordinate in i_view32.ini.

    Note : this happens whatever the screen resolution settings are set to.

    Could you confirm this ? Or is my system going crazy ?

    Thanks,
    Didier (Brussels, BE)

    Apparently your system is going crazy. No sign of any problems here.

        Hi Didier,

        Is there a program (like TFncKy.exe) running in the backgound that intercepts F2 and moves the window?

          I have the same problem; Rename Window kept changing place and now it is out of sight.
          I still can use it but I'd like to see it as well.

          I have no programs intercepting F2 running (as far as I know...)
          Any answers,somebody,please.

            Try finding it again using ALT+Space Bar>Move.

            Press ALT+Space Bar, Enter. Then try each arrow direction to see if it returns to view.

              yes it does

              vist sp1 here.

              i do a lot of renaming, both single image viewing and from the thumbs page.

              each time, the new name window moves slightly to left.

              sofar the only solution i got is keeping open
              "C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view32.ini"
              and keeping deleting the FileRename line
              otherwise, the little window moves ot of the screen...

              For instance, i begin with
              FileRename=187,439,368,171,0;
              after first renaming from thumbs it changes to
              FileRename=53,439,368,171,0;
              after second renaming
              FileRename=-81,439,368,171,0;
              third (i dragged it to the center, as it already was half out of the screen)
              FileRename=93,406,368,171,0;

              frankly i do not understand why keeping track of this window's position. all windows users are used to centered message windows.

              ciao, andrea

                Sorry, no solution for you, but you could set the ini to read-only so you don't have to keep deleting the entries. Be careful and remember to undo this when you're done.

                Hope this helps!

                  FWIW, I have a similar configuration as Didier (Windows XP Pro SP3 IrfanView 4.20) and don't have the problem. I thought that the 28 pixel vertical move might be related to the taskbar autohiding, but couldn't find a combination of options (autohide, always on top) that created the problem.

                  To answer Andrea's question, it's nice that IrfanView remembers the dialog location. I often rename images based on what's in them. If the dialog always opened in the middle of the image, it could obscure what I need to send and I'd have to move it every time. Opening in the middle of the screen would be even worse since with extended desktops, the dialog could be split across monitors.
