2. Why does Irfan continue to offer new versions of IrfanView today?

Yep, I'm obviously too late, but happy birthday, Mitaly..

I think this is quite a confusing thread, because the main question was : "Purpose of IrfanView?".
While in the next contents, it's more about the money aspect.

As the name suggests, IrfanView is designed to be a bitmap viewer, and it succeeds in being the fastest one around.
I consider everything else as a bonus, made by the programmer, even the ability to save the result.
Because it involves extra work, so there's the choice to do this for free, or demand to get paid for it.

The purpose of something is not only what it is for, but why it is done. For instance, the purpose of IrfanView can be to view images real fast. But the purpose can also be to give Irfan notoriety (in a favorable way).
