It seems that we have three factors in common here:

- Windows 7 x64
- ATI graphics card
- Irfanview 4.25 in thumbnail mode

Therefore it should be quite easy to reproduce this crash. But what can be done about it?

My actual work-around is to deactive the "Desktopgestaltung" in the IV-shortcut.

Yes. In english this is called "Disable desktop composition" and what it does is disable Aero (the DirectX window effects first introduced in Vista).

My theory is that IrfanView, possibly together with the ATI graphics driver, tries to do something funny in Windows 7, crashing it. It should normally be very hard to crash Windows 7. But it's so easily reproducable that we should really inform Irfan about it.
