    browser plugin

    Dear all,

we are investigating to use an image-viewer in a webenvironment. It should work as a browser plug-in. Does anyone know if there is a possibility to use Irfan for this purpose?

    greetings,

    Denis Roels

Welcome to the Forum, droels. Perhaps you are unaware that the members of this Forum are all IrfanView fans, with a handful few having helped write Plug-ins, documented and done other work for IrfanView. Some of the Programmer-Members can answer you, meanwhile you could also mail the developer, Irfan, by visiting the IrfanView website - I am all for a Browser Plug-in, as long as it is real tiny and greased lightning!

No, at least not easily. IrfanView is a Win32 application; the simplest conversion that would have to be done to embed it in a web page would be transforming it in an ActiveX control, but still it wouldn't be easy at all: as far as I know, IV internally doesn't use MFC or any other toolkit, so transforming the application in an ActiveX control would involve a complete refactoring of almost all the code.
By the way, ActiveX controls are usable only with IE on Windows, and, since they often are used to install viruses, many users have them disabled by default; actually, ActiveX is a dying technology.

The latest stable IrfanPaint version is the 0.4.13.70.
IrfanPaint is now open-source (released under BSD license).
