Following up the thread in the "Support" forum, I'd suggest that IrfanView's EXIF info box display the thumbnail stored within a JPEG (other formats?) or as a short term solution a Yes or No to indicate whether a thumbnail is present.
It would also be good IMHO to split the "keep original EXIF data" into two groups:
(1) technical data (f-stop, exposure time, date & time, camera type, etc.)
(2) privacy related data (owner*, thumbnail)
I gladly share the technical data, but not the latter.

* I don't have to store my name/initials in the camera, but I might want to decide to have the info stored with some pictures and not with others.
