"Open with external editor" doesn't work

I have found a bug (probably) in the new version 4.10.
When I want to open picture in external editor (GIMP) with Shift-E or using the File menu nothing happens. The command line is set correctly. I installed the 4.0 version to check and it works fine. Can anybody confirm this?

No problem here, I just installed it and GIMP-ed something to test it.
      Its: Belongs to "It"
It's: Shortened form of "It is"

It works fine here with my selected programs, except that the Shortcut key doesn't work as expected from the Thumbnail viewer. It always opens the same file that is opened in the viewer, rather than the selected one. If I use the menu from the thumbnail viewer, it works fine.

            I have forgot to say...
My operating system using this programme is Windows ME
It could be an "answer" or a possibility to not working properly?

                Hi,

                i guess it´s a wrong path:

                Try e.g. :
                C:\Programme\GIMP-2.0\bin\gimp-2.2.exe
I can imagine that you have a space in the path name:

                C:\Program <space> Files

But i have to test it first ...

You guess right. Hitherto it was necessary to launch GIMP via gimp-win-remote.exe. Now you can use gimp-2.2.exe directly.

                  Thanks for the hint,
                  Sascha

It was correct path until IV 4.10. But the short version works now.
                    Thanks Steve.

There's still one problem left. Every time I use "External Editor" with GIMP a new instance of GIMP is opened. I suppose that "gimp-win-remote.exe" circumvented this.

                      Regards,
                      Sascha

That's true. I didn't notice that because i tested only one picture. But that really is a problem and it is indeed what gimp-win-remote.exe is good for.
So I suppose that unless there is some workaround for this we need the old IV4.0 behavior back.

                          Hi,

The program gimp-win-remote.exe is indeed what is needed to avoid multiple instances of the Gimp. It saves memory and time. I don't know why IrfanView behaviour has changed
A workaround is to call a batch file instead of gimp-win-remote.exe. Just copy the following code in a text file, save it for example as OpenWithGimp.bat in IrfanView's directory and choose it as "external editor":
                          Code:
                          "C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin\gimp-win-remote.exe" gimp-2.2.exe %1
                          Laurent
Before you post ... fill in your OS and IV version in your profile.

Using the batch file with its "DOS window" opening every time to run the GIMP is quite annoying (at least for me). I'm going back to IV 4.0 and hope this will be fixed in next version...

                              Misc 3 not Misc 2

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 and Iview 4.10.

If I click on the open with external edit menu option in File. I'm told that I've no external viewer defined. It says check in Properties> Misc 2 which this field isn't in.
But the author has forgotten that the option has moved to Misc 3! Opps. :-)

I normally use the alternative ENGLISH.DLL with the improved properties window and this option is in Properties>Folders.
But if I go to this 'set external view/editor:' field and click on Browser, nothing happens.
I have to manually enter a path.
But it still doesn't work. It thinks its undefined and if I re-examine this option, it's blank.
The path I tried was c:\windows\System32\mspaint.exe
So that's DLL is busted in this respect! :-)
