Slow On-the-Fly Resample (Fit) upon minimizing

I have recently updated to Irfan 4.38. I'm very pleased with the improvements, particularly the choice of downsampling algorithms in the Image Size dialog (fast - less ringing, new not fast - sharper). Many new functions to discover!!a

But now to the point. I have observed that if I open an image, zoom out a bit, minimize the IrfanView window, then restore it to its previous maximized state, IrfanView will behave as if it was put in "fit" mode. It will resample the image on the fly as I drag it around the screen (zoomed image is larger than the screen/window). This process is very slow (on my older computer). The program seems to continuously run the resampler instead of doing it once, saving a copy to memory, and then allowing me to drag the filtered image. I have to zoom out a bit to trigger this.

This becomes an issue when I enter metadata from CD covers. I open a (large) scanned cover artwork, zoom out, read a line from it, type it into a media player, switch back to IrfanView. Sometimes I minimize/restore IV during switching.

I have the following configuration: Display options -> Do not fit anything, Use resample for fitting, DO NOT Use resample for zooming. While seemingly in fit mode, the menu still reads do not fit anything, and no checkmark is next to resample for zooming. My system is Windows XP.

The purpose of this setup is that I can choose to "fit" by hitting F and see an image in good quality without aliasing. But normal viewing is still simple nearest-neighbor zoom.
