Resize/Resample of PBM in batch conversion not the same if done manually

I resized/resampled a 600dpi PBM to a 300dpi PBM in batch mode and didn't get the same PBM when done manually. Even though the file sizes appear to be the same - 593 KB (607,536 bytes) - the resulting G4 TIFs are not the same in size. The PBMs, when converted to DjVu, also result in files that are not the same in size or appearance.
