Installing font

Having downloaded a new font for my laptop, I have a new IrfanView TTF file.
I hadn't used IrfanView before. I downloaded the app. When I open it, there is a blank black page (with Edit etc at the top).
But I don't know what I need to do to install the font on my laptop.
It may well be very simple but I haven't done this before.
Can you help, please?

IrfanView can replace Windows Font Viewer as the program associated with TTF if you wish, but it is better to use a proper font viewer like High-Logic MainType for viewing fonts in detail.

To install a font, you just need to drag it into C:\Windows\Fonts\
