Problem with scanning images with Irfanview4.62 (64bit)

When I try to scan an image on my win10pro desktop Irfanview goes through all the correct procedures, launching the scanning software etc. but when it imports the data from the scanning software I just get a blank screen with no image. I have discovered that the Irfanview window does resize its self to fit the image being scanned but no data apart from that is transferred from my scanning software to the Irfanview viewer. I am still able to scan the image via MS Paint and import it to Irfanview that way.

    Here are my system specs:

    Edition Windows 10 Pro
    Version 21H2
    Installed on ?19/?01/?2022
    OS build 19044.2486
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0

    Device name DESKTOP-GHH8HE0
    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz 3.07 GHz
    Installed RAM 8.00 GB
    Device ID 65953B96-2FD8-4CFF-BBD4-E6563799F505
    Product ID 00330-80000-00000-AA680
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

i hope I have posted this under the right topic, I am new to the Irfanview Forum.

You didn't tell the model of your scanner. Some scanners have poor 64 bit support, you may try IrfanView 32 bit. Both versions of IrfanView can be installed at the same time, they are independent on each other.

If your scanner has decent software, you don't need to use a graphics program for scanning. My scanner comes with pretty good software, that supports batch scanning, so I'm using just that.
    My system: IrfanView 4.62 64bit, Windows 10 22H2, Intel Core i5-3570, 16GB RAM, NVidia GTX 1050Ti 4GB

      From the FAQ on IrfanView.com
64-bit will be faster for some operations due to supporting more RAM.

      Advantages of IrfanView 32-bit over 64-bit version:Runs on a 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
      * Loads all files/images for normal needs (max. RAM size is about 1.3 GB)
      * Needs less disc space
      * All PlugIns will work: not all PlugIns are ported (yet) to 64-bit (like OCR) and some 32-bit PlugIns must be still used in the 64-bit version, some with limitations (see the "Plugins32" folder)
      * Some old 32-bit PlugIns (like RIOT and Adobe 8BF PlugIn) work only in compatibility mode in IrfanView-64
      * Command line options for scanning (/scan etc.) work only in 32-bit (because no 64-bit TWAIN drivers)

I believe you need 32 bit IrfanView to do scanning. I have both 64 and 32 bit IrfanView installed and do scanning with the 32 bit version. Most scanners do not have 64 bit drivers.
