After inverting the colours, save the file, then it should be OK the next time you open it.

The ratios for the square root of 2 were added some time after version 4.44, but there is no option to add your own custom ratios.

As far as I know, one cannot add new custom ratios. You get just one, which can be changed, and is remembered by the dialog.

The WPG plugin for IrfanView 4.57 will open WPG version 1 files, but not version 2.

If the background colour is used in the picture, it will be unsuitable. Use the flood-fill tool to change the background to a suitable colour if necessary.
