Thanks PBru for asking this. I used to go through the thumbnails window (right click thumb for context menu) for this.
You made me search the Irfanview Help for a shortcut :)

IrfanView Help (F1) says:

CTRL + O Start Google Earth with the EXIF-GPS data of the loaded file

(I don't have GPS-tagged photos to test it)

You may be aware of this already, there is an option to ask to rename false/missing extensions. There is a message and you can answer yes or no. In either case the image will be shown if recognized...
