Question New Properties->Fullscreen option: Show blurred image sides

Please help me, I don't get it. What does this option do exactly?

The Properties/Settings dialog box text for that reads:

Show blurred (vertical) image sides (if image height >=screen height)

And this confused me even more. Can anyone please show me how that works visually? TIA.

It's just something that is, I suppose, thought more attractive for presentations than a plain background colour that may not match the colour of the image.

Without that option set, the sides of this screen shot would be plain cyan with my current settings.
