TIFF file properties: LZW - 7 PAGES

Does anyone know what LZW PAGES are in a TIFF file?
Note that this is one image, not a file with multiple images that can be paged through.

As an example, in Irfanview, I do
Image > Information.
It says Compression: LZW - 7 pages

Resaving the file after un-ticking 'Save all pages from original image' makes the file much smaller.

It sounds very much like it is a multipage image. Without seeing it we would be only guessing what the problem might be.

It's definitely one image. 10,000 x 10,000 pixels. About 250MB.
I'm guessing it is either a 'pyramid' thing, to provide previews (or thumbnails?) at different zoom levels, or the LZW compression has been split into seven different areas of the image?
