Solved IrfanView 64 and DDS files

In older versions I was able to open and read DDS files, even save them as any desired file format. But since the latest version I downloaded (v4.50 - x64) I can't open any DDS file and there's always a message saying "formats.dll" can not be loaded. The file in question is present among the plugins. I tried with the x86 version and I still get the same message. Any suggestions how to fix that?

    From the IrfanView Site:

    • Advantages of IrfanView 32-bit over 64-bit version:
    • Runs on a 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
    • Loads all files/images for normal needs (max. RAM size is about 1.3 GB)
    • Needs less disc space
    • All PlugIns will work: not all PlugIns are ported (yet) to 64-bit (like OCR) and some 32-bit PlugIns must be still used in the 64-bit version, some with limitations (see the "Plugins32" folder)
    • Some old 32-bit PlugIns (like RIOT and Adobe 8BF PlugIn) work only in compatibilty mode in IrfanView-64
    • Command line options for scanning (/scan etc.) work only in 32-bit (because no 64-bit TWAIN drivers)

Note that the latest version is now 4.51. Let us know if it works OK with the 32-bit version

The 32-bit runs perfectly and opens DDS without any problems, thanks.

Just found this thread as I have had a need to use DDS format images recently.

To confirm: I've not had any problems opening DDS format images with either 32bit or 64bit versions of IranfanView. That is using IRFV v4.3.5.0 32bit (installed - kept for just such purposes), IRFV v4.51 64bit (installed) and IRFV v4.52 64bit (portable). All were tested using the most recent v4.52 full plugin pack.

Pity you can not save/convert to DDS format using IRFV as that would be useful to me but there are plenty of converter programs and other graphics tools which will do that.
