Another picture appears when editing

I love Irfan View, used it for years. A few days ago while working on a picture a different picture automatically popped up. Now I cannot do any pictures without another one popping up. What am I doing wrong? I need to do some pictures PLEASE?

There are a number of settings/constellations that will scroll to the next image on use of the scroll wheel, right/left mouse click or up/down keys.

For a start, see if you have the warning enabled that will pop up when you have made changes to an image and then scroll to another image. See screen shot:
