Plugins and Add-Ons defined and described

There are so many of them and I wondered:

    1) What is the difference between a Plugin and an Add-On?

    2) Is there any resource that lists all the Plugins and Add-Ons and actually describes what they do or how they enhance Irfanview?

I see dlls like PDF.dll, PNG.dll, and Photocd.dll and I can only guess that they have something to do with PDFs, PNG files, and Photos but otherwise I have no clue what they are or how to use them.

I like Irfanview a lot and would love to be able to take advantage of all the features and enhancements available.

Maybe Wikipedia has an answer to that question - I didn't look it up. I've been thinking about your question and came to the opinion, that in my view
a plugin is and stays separate, while an add-on has to be added/installed to the application to be used by the application, as is common for browsers
    like Chrome or Firefox.

    See C:\Program Files (x86)\IrfanView\i_plugins.txt for IrfanView 32bit or C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_plugins.txt
    for IrfanView 64bit.
