Converting Large TIF images to JPG

    Hello,

I've got some very large TIF images produced from photogrammetry ranging from 200mb to up over 2gb, to make them manageable and easy to distribute i generally convert them to .jpg

images up to 300-400 mb work fine, but when I'm converting the large images (currently trying a 800mb tif) IrfanView crashes immediately regardless of the quality chosen

the images open fine in the viewer, but just crash when i attempt to save

    Windows 10, using v4.51 64 bit, 32gb ram

    any ideas?

    cheers

With only 16 GB of ram, I can convert 8- and 16-bit tiffs up to 1,1 GB in size (I had to create one that big, actually), IV is using less than 2 GB of ram in the process.
    IrfanView 4.62 64-bit

You may be running into the maximum dimensions allowed for JPG images.

Try using PNG instead. If you can reduce to 256 colours the file size can be reduced significantly.
