Requested Option for selection tickbox on images in Thumbnail view

Thumbnail view in Irfanview is incredibly useful and i use it all the time for rotating, cropping, editing, batch, etc. Right now though to select images you have to hold ctrl or shift and then select images, which is fine for most cases, but if you have loads of images you're working with, then selecting lots of images and then accidentally letting go of ctrl or shift and clicking on an image or empty space means all the previous images you selected get unselected.

Would it be possible to have an option in thumbnail view where you can turn on and off an option which adds a small tickbox/checkbox on the corner of each image, that way you can select the images you want with mouse only without holding down ctrl or shift which means you don't accidentally unselect all the selected images if you accidentally let go of the keyboard keys or click on an empty space.

The default could be to not have the tick box, but those who need it for bulk images could turn it on quickly under the options in thumbnail view.
