I'd like to know how the mapping of colours/inks actually works, are you able to share?
I have a Pantone inked PDF, I want it output as an RGB 8-bit TIF.
This I can do very easily with Irfanview, thank you.
BUT....
When I light blue ink, that I would like to map to a more vibrant blue using the import palette, the light blue maps to a grey ink instead.
At first I thought the values of all RGB colours/inks may be added together and the nearest function would go towards the colour that was closest.
However that doesn't happen on this occasion.
Does it look at the highest valued ink (Blue) (should they not be the same) and then find all the colours with a matching value, then workout the difference between the other colours (Red & Green)?
I expect it's a lot more complicated than that, from my testing I've not been able to find a pattern.
Any help will be much appreciated....
Here's what I'm playing with;
IMPORT PAL
ink1 0 0 0
ink2 9 9 9
ink3 201 0 116
ink4 254 254 254
ink5 0 120 55
ink6 16 83 180
ink7 188 213 241
ink8 162 227 173
ink9 192 192 192
ink10 229 229 229
ink11 220 43 34
The Pantone ink when degrade to 8-bit maps to 222 237 240
I would like that ink to map to ink7, but when using the nearest function it maps to ink10.
Changing the ink10 values to 213 213 213 it still mapped to ink10.
