Full path name does not work

From the cmd line, I often want to view an image in a subdirectory. I know the name, I know the path, so I enter
    Irfanview subdir\car\ford.png

And IrfanView cannot find it. I am forced to CD subdir\car and then irfanView ford.png.. works!

How difficult would adding capability of full path names to IrfanView?

Nearly every utility I use accepts a path name.

If there are spaces in the path or filename, you'll have to put the complete path in quotation marks. (i_view32 "sub dir\file name 123.jpg")
    Works for me.

It's relative name. By some reason Irfan refusing to support them.

If the path is correct - full or relative - Irfanview will open the image.

@ BobK: Could you be more specific about the path and filename or is the problem solved?

Fully works only full names because IV is messing with current dir.
Relative paths works only from the root.
If you launch "i_view32.exe picture" (without picture path) then IV will open existing file, but ctrl-s will show wrong dir.
