I never came to the idea to use Irfanview for playing sound files, though I know it can do that. I'd prefer a real music player like GOM-Player or AIMP.
However, it is possible to play sound files and a file list with Irfanview, if you use the Slideshow feature. I have no need for this feature, but you made me
curious. So I looked at the help function (F1) for Slideshow and found some interesting information. You may also want to go this way.
