Trying to get IrfanView to read a SWF file/Flash problems?

On recommendation from my magical internet support thingy, I downloaded IrfanView 4.2 to view a SWF file. As I downloaded Irfanview, I made the selection that it would automatically open any SWF file that I wanted to use. Now that I try to open the file, it does Irfanview can't open it. I get this error message: "Can't load PlugIn: "FLASH.DLL" !
Please install or update PlugIns from IrfanView homepage!"
Now, my SWF file told me I would need Flash to play it, and I updated my flash a little while ago, so... what's the issue?
    Thanks!

The SWF format is a tricky one. I think the issue here is a kind of confusion.
To 'update your flash' has nothing to do with the IrfanView plugins. It's a Macromedia file, version 9 at the moment.
Besides that, you'll need to install the plugin-package of IrfanView. This contains two files related to Flash :
'FLASH.DLL' and 'FLASH4.DLL'. They should be in the 'plugins' subdirectory of IV.

There is also a standalone EXE flash player ("projector"). It can display v.9 files without a web browser.
