    Solved Cropping does not work at all

    ok i will try to file a "serious " bug report
    MY OS: MS windows XP PRO 2002 Service pack 2
    irfanvieuw version: 4.23
    HARDWARE:nLite intel core 2cpu 6600@ 2.4Ghz; 2Go RAM 3 HD 500GB each
    STEP BY STEP :
    1/in open irfanvieuw application, choose file , choose "batch conversion/rename
    I then open a file with 6 jpeg pictures.... they appear in the upper right hand input window
    of the main batch conversion dialog
    by the way:...each jpeg file is a picture composed of 6 vieuws which I want to cut
    i into six congruent ( same size, same pixel xycoordinates)pictures
    in order to dispose them into a stack and treat them with other applications
    2/in the batch conversion main window...choose furthermore "add all"
    the 6 input files tranappear in the lower right window
    3/in same window choose under "work as": "batch conversion"
    choose under "batch conversion settings"
    output format = jpeg
    choose use advanced options(for bulk resize)
    click "advanced"
    in subsequent set for all images window
    set crop
    xpos = 114 ypos=216
    ( = size you I want to crop the sixfold imge
    to be cropped in ...for its first image...)
    do nothinh else
    aknowledge "ok"
    4/ returned to batch conversion main window
    specifie output directory
    verifie all other settings which seem to be ok in default mode
    all 6 files are in input window
    everything seems to be ok
    5/ start batch
    6/ batch conversion window appears
    all 6 files are mentionned , no errors no warning
    exit this window
    7/look "HOPEFULLY"INTO OUTPUT DIRECTORY ;;;
    ..... SADLY / NOTHING APPEARED THERE....
    !: START cOPERNICUS ALL COMPUTER SEARCH....
    NO FILE FOUND ELSEWHERE WITH THAT NAME OTHER THAN THE OUTPUT FILE
    in its original non cropped state
    NO CROPPING HAS BEEN DONE
    AND THE OUTPUT FILES HAVE NOT CHANGED

    QUESTION WHAT IS THIS ????
    BUG ? NO BUG?
    I ALSO REDOWNLOADED iRFANVIEUW 3TIMES JUST TO SEE
    IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG IN THE DOWNLOAD PACKAGE...
    IT DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING
    ANYBODY HELP OUT THERE?
    OR SHALL i JUST SKIP THIS SOFTWARE AND LOOK FOR SOMETHING ELSE
    IT4S A PITTY BECAUSE ALL ELSE WORKS WELL.....
    THANKS

    Hello STEFSAILOR,

    Don't quit IrfanView that fast!

    Yes, what you describe looks correct. From the sound of it, I think you just didn't set the crop correctly. You didn't mention entering any width or height, therefore they would both be zero. Consequently, zero height and width, regardless of position, results in nothing cropped. That is exactly what you told the conversion to do. So, it converted the files without cropping, just saving as JPG. This isn't a bug, but I agree, perhaps the program could warn the user that no cropping will be done, or prevent zero values from being entered.

    xpos = 114 ypos=216
    ( = size you I want to crop the sixfold imge
    to be cropped in ...for its first image...)
    Here you have entered where to start cropping (i.e. the offset from 0,0); it is not the size of the crop. The width and height describe what portion of the image to retain, starting at the X- and Y-pos specified. Enter a width and height and see what happens.

    When you crop using a selection box you are doing the same thing. Specifying a starting point and dragging the size box you want (look in title bar for coordinates and size). Custom crop selection (SHIFT+C) has a similar layout where you enter the X- and Y-offset, width and height, then apply the selection to the image. At that point you can crop with the selection box in place.

    Hopefully, you understand cropping a bit more now.
