    Default About codecs

Many times there are questions about media files not running properly in IrfanView.
Often it appears to be a matter of missing codecs.

So first, here is a tool to check which codecs are available on your system : Sherlock

    Many codecs :

    The K-Lite Codec Pack :

    Default codecs

if other players (DivX plus, WMP11) play an avi file OK, but IrfanView 4.27 only plays the sound (no video at all, but no error messages), then is this likely to be a codec issue or something else? It seems like the codec must be available for WMP11 to play the file. DivX player gives me the following info: video render= Direct3d video renderer, video decoder = DivX ASP decoder 6.8.2, video format = DivX video, audio decoder = Thompson mp3 surround audio decoder, audio format = mpeg-1 layer-3 audio (mp3) (tag 85).

    Thanks

I think the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool probably does much the same job as Sam's program did.
