Default Windows 7: How to avoid UAC?

Every time I double click a file associated to IrfanView the UAC window appears asking me: "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?"

Isn't there a way to inform Windows 7 that IrfanView is not to be screened?

Is the problem related to the fact that IrfanView's publisher is "Unknown"?

Welcome. I can imagine the annoyance of this.
"unknown publisher" means that M$ doesn't have a deal with the maker of IrfanView.
I hope that one of the members here with Win7 can help you to get rid of this message.

I had the problem while testing IrfanView 4.25 on Windows 7 RC too. Self-certifying that IrfanView installed properly in the Windows 7 UAC too did not help and so, I used to patiently click the one extra click. Even tried running it as a compatible Win XP program, with the same result!

Incidentally, my favorite Cleaner CCleaner exhibited similar behavior under Win 7 RC, while many other programs began to work correctly, without requiring the extra click!

Was hoping the final release of Win 7 would have taken care of it...

    Hi,

I'm running IrfanView on Windows 7 x64 but I do not get the UAC question. UAC is enabled on my pc.

    Where is your i_view32.ini?
On Windows 7 it should be in "%APPDATA%\IrfanView". Maybe this is the reason...

If you have the complete ini in your program directory try this:
    - close IV
    - create an IrfanView folder in the %APPDATA% director
    - move the i_view32.ini to the "%APPDATA%\IrfanView" directory
    - create a new i_view32.ini in your IrfanView program folder containing this:
    [Others]
    INI_Folder=%APPDATA%\IrfanView

    And the start IrfanView again.

    Best regards,
    Nils.

My INI was already as suggested.

Uninstalled IrfanView with Revo Uninstaller and manually deleted all references to i_view32.exe in Registry - reinstalled, no more UAC annoyance.

I ran several "portable" programs with no hassle in Win7 by installing them -- actually just copying from a USB stick -- to a directory outside Program Files. It was a few months ago, so I've forgotten some details, but I expect I must have adjusted folder and file permissions too.

    I'm waiting for 8
