Cool StylePix -- super image app

    http://hornil.com/en/downloads/stylepix/
    • Free (of course)
    • Familiar single-window interface (for the GIMPophobes)
    • Small download -- under 1MB (for the dial-ups)
    • Portable and can be installed without Admin privileges (I did it in my Vista luser profile)
    • Layers and transparency; all sorts of selection methods; nicely configurable brush and other tool size, softness, transparency, tolerance, etc.
    • Has its own file type, .tsp, to preserve special features, but will save in common formats -- jpg - png - gif - bmp - tga - tif

    In short, it's fragging awesome.

    My first doodle:

Indeed yes, checked it out and on first looks, it seems to be a power-packed program! Interesting that the setup file is only about 1 MB and that the installed folder too is just 7 MB alone!

    Thanks for the link!

Yep, thanks. Looks promising, with indeed a nice GUI.
Of course I have to check this further, but this could be a possible alternative, of bulky apps like P'shop, we could give a link to,
if some post is asking about for example layers.

Yes indeed - it seems to be good for Layers and has configurable Undos, with a maximum of 64 Undos. I also like the very usable and useful filters that the program has built in!

I am still utterly gobsmacked. You can even drag an image in as a new layer (I was looking for the equivalent of the GIMP's "Open as layer"). I imagine an inexperienced newb would still be hollering, "Wahh, how do I....", and it has a quirk or two, but it's definitely the best thing I've tried out in years. I haven't been able to crash it yet, LOL. I put it in my SendTo, and as IrfanView's #2 Open-with. It's blindingly fast compared to my beloved GIMP.

ETA: I did manage to crash it, playing with gradients

GIMP is last off the block - even Photoshop opens a wee bit faster! I tried GIMPShop and under Windows at least, it is a lot, lot faster...

Looking at the features listed on their website I miss 8bf plugin support. Am I right or is it hidden somewhere?

No 8bf support I could see too, but I find the built-in effects very useful!

Heh, copy -- paste into IrfanView -- do effects -- copy -- paste into StylePix. A marriage made in Heaven.

I was hoping for a quick, light-weight app for applying 8bf filters to selections and layers with transparencies.
