Reverse image names in a folder

I want to reverse the image names in a folder, so that (for example) 1.jpg becomes 148.jpg and 148.pg becomes 1.jpg (ie all the images in the same sequence but backwards). I presume I use the batch conversion tool. I have tried but I can`t get the image names to reverse. I`ve used $N as the name pattern. I don`t know how to fill out the Batch rename settings box to this end. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Hi Ian,

Not possible with IrfanView. Even by hand it is not possible, except if you use a temporary file:
1.jpg > temp.jpg
148.jpg > 1.jpg (overwrite)
temp.jpg > 148.jpg

You can do it easily with TotalCommander, using its MultiRename tool.

thank you both. Actually I found in the end that I could do it in Windows Explorer!
