Batch Convert - Keep existing transparency without clicking each one

I have a huge amount of PNG32's that I would like to convert to PNG8. The original images have a black background that is transparent. I would like to batch convert these to PNG8's and maintain that black transparency. It works fine if I 'click' the transparent color on each image as it cycles through, but for obvious reasons, I'd like to avoid that. Can anyone lend some insight?

    Thanks.

The correct options have to be first stored in the i_view32.ini initialization file. Proceed as follows

    Open main Irfanview window.
Open Options >Properties/settings > View tab
To open a PNG file and retain the original transparent color make sure that
Show PNG/TGA/DDC alpha/transparent color is Checked
Press OK to store this setting in the ini file

Open an image then File >Save As and select Save as type : PNG. Open the Save options if not already displayed. Make sure that Save transparent color is Unchecked.
Save the file somewhere (Note: A file must be saved for these options to be stored in the ini file)
