Trnsparent gif creation

Is there a way with IrfanView to convert jpegs to transparent gifs?

I must be missing the question because it seems very easy. File, save as, pick Gif file type, check save transparent color, then pick the color you want transparent. If your jpeg has many colors it will be better to decrease the colors by going to Image then Decrease Color Depth.

The problem with JPG images is that the background is rarely a uniform colour. Use the flood fill tool in IrfanPaint (F12) first, and adjust the tolerance to get the result that you want. Then save as transparent GIF (256 colours) or transparent PNG (24-bit true colour).
