pngout - any place where options is explained?

    Hi.

I want to know more about what effects the various settings in PNGOUT save options dialog box have.

It's espechially the filter options - I wonder what differences there is between them.

Any site that can explain this?

I've googled around and also searched in this forum, but no luck.

    Thanks

The filters isn't explained on that page.

However, I guess that filters is like different algoritms used to compress to png, so I just ran some test where I saved a big image to png using different filters. I've found ot this:
When filter setting is either on Auto or Adaptive, then the resulting file is getting smaller compared to other filter settings.
The resulting files using Auto and Adaptive filters is binary equal (tested this with FC /B command in windows), meaning there is no differences.

Now I wonder - When is it appropriate to select one of the other filters (None, Sub, Up, Average, Paeth) if they doesn't compress as good as the Auto/Adaptive setting do?
