Multipage Tiff view and convert

Hi All,

When I try to view a multipage Tiff file created in ACDSee, I do not see a side bar with previews. Pages are all there, but have to scroll down.

Also during a "conversion" - this is tiff-to-tiff to apply compression, this side bar is lost, unless I select "overwrite original". So even ACDsee does not see the sidebar.

Can anyone explain.

Am quite confused with .tiff files. Working with B&W text scan files, which have no compression applied.
Wanted to "convert" back to tiff with applied CCITT Fax4 compression.

If I break up the tiff file and recompress them individually, a compression of 10:1 or better is achieved.
But when I combine the files again, the compression on multi-page tiff is 1.2. What gives.

Is there a way to apply CCITT Fax4 compression to multipage tiff file/s?
