We have a standard set of test images to diagnose tiff orientation problems in third party components we use in our software. While debugging one of the components, I used IrfanView 4.35 for reference and noticed that it also had some minor issues (although Irfanview overall has excellent support for various tiff formats).
The test images can be downloaded here: http://support.decos.nl/exif-orientation-testimages.zip
The zip file contains one subdirectory per tiff image type, in each directory one image for each of the 8 possible orientations.
Test results are as follows:
jpeg, tiff-ccitt4, tiff-ccitt rle, tiff-lzw b&w, tiff lzw color, tiff packbits: All orientations display OK.
tiff-jpeg type 6, tiff-jpeg type 7: Orientation 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8: upside-down and/or mirrored.
I have verified that the problem is not in the test images using the freeware AsTiffTagViewer (http://www.awaresystems.be/imaging/t...tagviewer.html).
