For some reason IV has no XMP support (although in some operations it is possible to keep or delete XMP information). On the other side, many programs use XMP metadata (sometimes in problematic ways, I know) and whenever an IV user wants to read or edit them, she/he has to switch to some other tool.
IPTC is outdated and quite limited; an IV XMP plugin (perhaps based on exiftool) would be a great improvement, as I see that.
