    Solved Resizing

Is there an upper limit on the size file Irfanview can itself resize? I am attempting to resize 4.56 MB files and it returns an error message each time. Thanks in advance.

4.56 Mbytes tells us nothing. Its the number of pixels and colour depth of the image and therefore the size in memory that counts. What is the error message?

"ERROR! Can't save" the file selected for compression

          Hhmm, ...

Which version of IrfanView and which OS you are using?
What kind of image format is your file? (JPG, JP2, PNG, BMP, GIF, ...)
Which save dialog doesn't work? ["Save (original folder)", "Save as...", "Save for Web... (PlugIn)", ... ???!]
Which version of RIOT.DLL do you have? (see program menu of IrfanView: \Help\Installed PlugIns...\)

          Please give use helpful screenshot(s)!

            JPEG

"JPEG Save error. Could not compress to desired filesize"

Neither "Save as" individual file nor batch conversion works

            Riot 0.3.3.0

It sounds like you're trying to compress a large image to an impossibly small file size. Increase the file size value to something more reasonable, or use the save for Web (plugin) option and go through the RIOT dialogues and optimise the image there.

As I thought, putting that option there created more problems than it has to offer. I think this option should be moved to a dedicated function.

People should read the help file. The option is obvious enough and very useful once you understand what it does. One doesn't always want to go through the RIOT interface just to save compress a file to a specified size in kbytes. RIOT offers a lot more options, but more options means more decisions to make, and takes more time.
