Reported "Cropping" works only once since 4.36 with win98

IrFanview 4.36 and win 98:

I can crop only one time, then a double cross appears instead of a cropping window.
I have to close and reopen IrFanview to crop again.

This problem appeared with the 4.36. It worked correctly with 4.33

I know of no differences in what you do or see, when cropping, between v4.33 and v4.36. Are you sure you are doing exactly the same things that you did in the earlier version?
If so make sure you tell us all the steps you are taking, all the buttons, keys or menu items that you select or press, and what you see at each stage.

I have never seen anything that I would describe as a "double cross" so please give a more detailed description of that please, or if you can, include a screen shot of it.

Ok, I'll try to explain it the best I can...

OS: win98 (this problem doesn't exist on win XP) - IrFanview 4.33 (no problem) and 4.36 (problem)

I click on i_view32-433.exe and it opens.
I click on FILE/OPEN/photo1.jpg
The image is displayed in the IrFanView window.
I put the mouse pointer any place on the image - click left the mouse, and draw the mouse down right, for example.
A windows is drawn - I click within this window, and the image is cut along the window. Fine.
I click on FILE/OPEN/photo2.jpg again. I do the same as above, and all is ok.
...I can do that indefinitively with lots of image files, and all works well.

Now with 4.36:
I click on i_view32-436.exe and it opens.
I click on FILE/OPEN/photo1.jpg - The image is displayed in the IrFanView window.
I put the mouse pointer any place on the image - click left the mouse, and draw the mouse, down right, for example.
A windows is drawn - I click within this window, and the image is cut along the window. Fine.

Then I click on FILE/OPEN/photo2.jpg again - The image is displayed in the IrFanView window.
I put the mouse pointer any place on the image - click left the mouse, and there is no window drawn.
Simply a cross displayed when I click left the mouse. Impossible to select an area.
Sometimes I simply get a cross, sometimes a window open completely on the right of the screen, long distance from the cross. Cropping is not possible.
I can do that indefinitively with lots of image files, no more cropping possible.

To do another cropping I have to close IrFanView, reopen it, reopen an image file, and I can crop again... ONCE only.

About the "double cross":

The normal cross seems to be a double cross when the background is white.
It's not a problem, it's ok

This is "making a selection"

I click within this window, and the image is cut along the window.

This is actually not croppping/cutting. By clicking inside a selection Irfanview just zooms in, so that your selection fills the window.

As for your problem, you might try copying the i_view32.ini file from any installation (where the problem doesn't occur) to your Win98+IV 4.36 installation and see whether the problem persists.

You're right, the title of this thread should be: Selection works only once since 4.36 with win98.

In other words:
First image:
- I make a selection
- Then I click inside the selection and it zooms in.

Then I load another image > Impossible to make a selection.
I have to close/reopen IrFanView to be able to do ONE selection again.

I replaced the i_view32.ini file with the one used in 4.33, but the problem always occurs with the 4.36.

Another info:

When the bug occurs, and the selection does not work, in the line on top saying
XY: (Xvalue,Yvalue)(px,py Pixels, value) we have:
- Xvalue always = to the maximum image X size in pixels and it doesn't change with the mouse position.
- px always = 0 and it doesn't change with the mouse position.
- Yvalue and py are ok: they both change with the mouse position.
