    Reported Loosing whole folders

Using IrfanView 4.25 on Windows XP

    Within the browser "IrfanView Thumbnails"...
    1. Create a parent folder somewhere
    2. Create a folder within the parent called "test"
    3. Put a few images in the folder "test"
    4. Select the "test" folder
    5. Press the DELETE key

IV tries to delete the PARENT folder. (luckily access is denied as a file is currently in use). But that is not the real problem...
    1. Click in the thumbnail pane so no image is selected
    2. Click in the folder tree pane ("test" is selected again)

The entire TEST folder and all its images disappears! It is not deleted in the normal way as it doesn't appear in the Recycle Bin. Yet it doesn't appear in Explorer either. The images simply vanish. (And yes, they were my only copies first time it happened <foolish_grin>).

Can't completely confirm this. Only that if I:
    (1) Create a folder anywhere in the thumbnails viewer directory tree view
    (2) Open *any* folder in thumbnails view and press DEL

Instead of the selected folder, IV will try to delete the parent of the folder created in (1). Depending on circumstances, the deletion may fail (access denied), and when it does, no files get deleted.

The latter part of your description might be caused by a filesystem hook responding to "access denied, file in use"-events, and (automatically?) closing said file handles. That would be unrelated to IV though.
