Hello, first time posting... sorry for the rambling.
A few weeks ago my irfanview just began crashing almost randomly. It has worked for YEARS. I was only doing simple functions, mostly consisting of pasting small images beside or below an image and/or adding a small amount of text using the Paint Dialog. The latest example was:
1) I had taken a screen shot of a piece of a newspaper article and pasted into irfanview
2) took another piece screenshot, psated it to the bottom: alt-e-t-b (likely repeated several times)
3) wanted to put a bit of colored text to say "end of quote" about 3/4 way down the image.
4) attempt to save - crash
5) redo, attempt to copy image (ctl-a, ctl-c), crash
6) was able to select, cut a piece out and save it normally, but the saved image would still crash on text
7) after I added the text, almost anything else I did (try to save, try to copy, even try to resize the window, etc), it would
8) freeze for about 10 seconds
9) disappear/crash.
10) absolutely nothing else.
Yep, just pulled up that image - it still does it. The image is a jpg, 1.75 MB (1,835,133). Nothing special.
1) open image
2) F12 for paint dialog (set to text)
3) add "test" word of text.
4) close paint dialog
5) Ctl-A, Ctl-C .... (or save or resize window, anything)
6) Freeze, crash
Note, I don't believe it is ONLY with the text tool, but I don't remember another specific example.
I was originally using an older version (not sure which), so I upgraded to 4.62. Both versions were 64 bit.
I just copied it to another drive, still crashes. I then edited it with MS paint, no problem, saved it. Then used irfanview again on the new file, crash.
One last data point ... it may have something to do with the image? If so, I've created several of these lately and don't know what I did.
1) open the image.
2) immedately copy it: Ctl-a, CTL-s
3) opened a new irfanview and pasted it in and save it to a new file name.
4) opened that new file
5) I can now add text.
????
I saw another crashing post here, with no solution mentioned:
I tend to believe it must be Windows 10 since nothing I know of has changed with my irfanview... unless some setting changed that carried over versions upgrades.
Even it if it Windows, how can I analyze or save info about a crash for analysis. I don't have any sort of "reason" for the crash at all. I'm a professional "computer guy," mostly Linux not Windows, so can do most anything necessary to figure it out.
Thanks.
