Reported IrfanView hangs on multipage PDF scanning

    Hi,

    Environment:
    - WinXP SP3
    - IrfanView 4.35+Plugins 4.35
    - Scanner (reproduced using UniTWAIN and with a Canon IR2800 machine)

    Steps to duplicate:
    1. Start IrfanView Acquire/Batch scanning.
    2. Select Multipage scanning, PDF format. The PDF-specific settings are irrelevant to the issue, but it's more convenient to test if imPDF has security turned off and doesn't ask for settings before every page.
    3. Scan a multipage document (4 pages at least).

Results: When the scanning process is over, IrfanView hangs. It must be killed from task manager.

    Facts:
    - scanning using the same scanner into different file formats works well.
    - The issue seems a timing issue for me: To reproduce it, you need a very fast scanner like UniTWAIN or an enterprise-class scanner. For example, XPCTWAIN is not capable to reproduce the issue, because it is pausing between pages.

Workaround: Use other target format for scanning (like multipage TIFF), then convert it into PDF.

    Thanks,

    Jani

    Hi,

how much RAM does your computer have?
Could you please scan again and have the Windows Task MAnager open to check how much RAM i_view32.exe will use?

    Regards
    Nils

    PS: I don't have a scanner s oI can't check this.

      Hi,

The hang occurs right after starting the scan, IrfanView shows normal memory consumption (under 100MB).

You can reproduce the issue by installing UniTWAIN (see the link in the original post). It's a virtual scanner utility, so you don't need a real scanner.
