Until now it's not possible!
But you could also ask Irfan Skiljan (the author of IrfanView) for such feature!
Write him an email!

Searching in Wikipedia (article: "XM (file format)") you can find the informations, that there are some free libraries for using/playing the XM format! May be that sometimes in the future IrfanView is able to play this format!

Up to a final decision you can use (for instance) XMPlay!

As Frank says, XMPlay is the one.

IrfanView is a graphic viewer in the first place. Playing back some audio or media files is a bonus.
If play of the .XM format should be possible, IV also should be able of handling other tracker formats like .MOD or .IT.

So quite complicated programming. If so wanted, I would recommend to Irfan to add the bass.dll library.
