It's currently quite laborious to change thumbnail size in the thumbnail window: Options -> Set thumbnail options, select size from drop-down, OK. I want the thumbnails as big as possible while still all fitting on the screen (that would be a great default behaviour, with some sensible minimum size). You just have to try to guess what size will achieve this. Wouldn't it be great if you could just use the "+" and "-" keys to change size or something like that, with immediate feedback.

Yes that would be quite useful. I would support that.
In general, if you want to repeat menu/dialog sequences frequently, it is sometimes worth learning the access key sequence. In this case it would be Alt+O, T, tab . Then use the Up or Down arrows to select the size you want, or type the first digit of the required size e.g. typing 2 sets 200X200, typing 2 again sets 250x250. Then hit Enter to select it.
Sound complicated, I know, but after practice you can do it much faster than using a mouse.
