    Duplex printing contact sheet

    Hello everyone,

I have a problem - Irfan View Thumbnails
doesn't print on both sides of a paper (duplex).
    What do I do?:
-create contact sheet by selecting "Print all".
-check my printer to print on both sides
    -print

and then it prints contact sheet only on one side of a paper.

    Any help would be appreciated

Duplex printing is controlled entirely by your printer. Irfanview doesn't know that the printing is on the backside rather than another sheet. The window where you select duplex printing is actually part of the printer's software.

Best guess: either the print job is waiting for you to tell it to print the second page (the prompt could be hiding behind another window--look for a flashing "tab" at the bottom of the screen), or the printer lost its synchronization with its driver software (eg, lost power or the printer cable was temporarily disconnected). Turning the printer off and then on again should re-sync it if that is the problem.

Another possibility: the second page is being lost (print cache or printer driver corrupted or handshaking problem). First fixes to try if that's the case: reboot, clear the printer cache, reload the printer driver.

Occasionally, Windows updates have been know to cause seemingly unrelated problems. Try un-installing the last round of updates, see if the problem goes away, then reinstall them and see if the problem returns. They can go away as mysteriously as they appear when you re-install.

Try to print something else (2 page document outside of Irfanview) in duplex mode. That will show whether the problem is generic to the duplex feature or related to the user interface window.

At the "check whether it's plugged in" level, some printers require special procedures when printing in duplex. For example, they may use a paper tray or feed area that must be clear when you want to duplex, or the paper must feed from a particular tray. Check the printer manual to make sure the printer is properly set-up for duplexing.

    Hope this helps.

Good advice from ghmarcus but unfortunately in this case the problem is that Irfanview does not create a multipage document for printing. Each sheet is created separately and sent as a new print job to the printer. So 2 sided printing does not work as you might expect. The second side of each sheet is printed but it is blank.

You can save the sheets as Tiff images and then create a multipage Tiff from those images. A multipage Tiff can be printed as a multipage document.
If you have the necessary plugins, you can also do the same with PDF images. No quick way though.
