Irfanview as searcheable photo gallery for PNG files

I was hoping to be able to use Irfanview to tag a bunch of PNGs that I have so I could search them easily. I'm hoping I'm missing something as I can't seem to find a way to do that for PNGs. Can someone tell me how this might be done, or perhaps that I'm trying to make the software do something for which it's not designed?

    Thanks.

IrfanView can read EXIF and IPTC metadata from jpg, tiff and many raw formats, and can write IPTC to jpg only. It doesn't support XMP metadata (yet), and that is, as far as I know, what you need for png format.

Some viewers/editors can do that, (a rather huge) Zoner Photo Studio, for instance. Or you can try a "digital asset management" program like Daminion, with advanced tagging and searching capabilities. The free version's catalogue size is limited to 15.000 pictures/items, but you can make multiple catalogues.

    Just some suggestions, good night!
