    Edit face brightness

I would like to increase brightness of face in my photos. The current selection only allows a rectangular box to be drawn in which brightness can be increased. This causes the brightness to increase even in unwanted areas.

Is there a way to make an irregular outline selection so that only the face outline can be manually selected and then edited.

    Thank you.

There's no irregular outline selection available in IrfanView.
Maybe my Spotlite .8BF plugin can be of any help in this.
It has a circular area, with settings of inside and outside brightness. But it has a blurred edge-setting as well.

      Install Plugin

      Thank Zen,
I copied rgbspot3.8bf file in the plugin folder and restarted irfanview. When I checked in the installed plugin list it does not appear in the list. Please advise how to make use of your plugin.
      Thank you.

The installed plugin list doesn't show the 8bf effect 'plugins'.
Only the presence and version of existing basic IV-plugins in the form of a DLL file.

The 8bf category is a specific category of one of the basic ones. In this case the 'Adobe-like' effects.
So you could say that this 'rgbspot' is a 'sub-plugin'.

In practice : Just remember where you stored rgbspot3.8bf, do Ctrl+K, do 'Remove all filters' (the latest group),
do 'Add 8BF filters' and browse to that directory having rgbspot3.8bf.

The default subdir to place this .8BF would be 'plugins/Adobe 8BF/' but other (new) folders are possible.

          rgbspot is up and running

Thanks Sam Zen. Your plugin is exactly what I was looking for.
Could you help with the following --
All images starts up with default plugin settings. Is it possible to make the plugin start with "Outer Light" same as original image. This will help the image keep the same background brightness and only the spot light area is changed. It will be a great help for the 1000 odd photos that I want to touch up.

          Thank you once again.

To change the default values of the sliders, you'll need a plugin-editor, like I used to make this one.
The original had the focus somewhere in the upper left corner, so I corrected this to the center.
On purpose I made the "Outer Light" region too dark, to get a clear view of the spot-position.
If you want the original background brightness, set "Outer Light" on 128.

Thank you. Its makes sense to have the background dark otherwise the spot may be difficult to find. I had been working with 130 for outer brightness which is close to 128 that you have stated.
Thanks a lot once again. Its a wonderful plugin.

Maybe it's not an issue of brightness. Quite often the gamma values of the images is not corrected. So I would try this first.
